soy domain name

We are excited to announce the new .SOY domain name. Not to be confused with the popular vegetarian alternative to meat, the new domain name .soy means “I am” in Spanish, and intended to used for Latino “identity and expression”.

The Mountain View, California based tech giant Google says .SOY offers Hispanic brands, consumers and publishers “a place to build, create and share cultural relevant content.”

This move falls in line with Google’s recent move into the domain names and shows that the search giant is taking more of a personalized approach by targeting unique groups. Perhaps we will soon see Google pitching web handles to other cultures in the not so distant future.

The Republica Agency, Ella Institute, Hispanic Heritage Fund and Latism are among the organizations that have already switched to .soy domain name.

“It’s a domain that is focused on the incredibly large U.S. Hispanic market and caters to both individuals and brands,” Jorge Plasencia, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Republica, a Miami-based cross-cultural advertising and communications agency, told.

“As Hispanics, our identity is so important that when Google announced this initiative we didn’t hesitate to become partners in its launch,” he added.

“There’s .com, .net, .org and now we have a domain that represents us and celebrates our Hispanic community,” the executive, whose company switched from .net to .soy, said.

“We have the numbers (55 million, the United States’ largest minority group) but (businesses) need to reflect on what they’re doing to reach this big market,” Plasencia said.
